Teens

The teenage years bring a lot of change, often all at once.

Bodies grow, movement changes and life gets busier. School, study, sport, work, screens and increasingly full schedules all place different demands on a teenager’s body.

The nervous system plays an important role in carrying information between the brain and body and coordinating movement. This forms part of the bigger picture we consider when looking at how a teenager is moving and functioning.

Sometimes something clearly hurts. Other times, it may be stiffness, restricted movement, changes in posture or simply the feeling that their body is not moving as comfortably as it used to.

Teenage life can also come with busy minds, big emotions, social pressures and a lot to juggle. These experiences can be part of the wider picture they share with us as we get to know them and understand what their everyday life looks like.

We create a space where teenagers can feel heard, respected and involved in their own care. We take the time to listen, complete a thorough assessment and explain what we find in a way that makes sense to them.

Our approach is individualised and guided by the teenager in front of us, with a focus on movement, function and helping them feel more confident in their body as they grow.

If your teenager has started working around discomfort or isn't quite at their best a closer look can be a good place to start.
